About Mrs. Cullop
Hello!
My name is Shai Cullop and I want to use this space to tell you a little bit about myself. I am originally from Chilhowie, Virginia, which is in Southwest Virginia. I love the mountains and the Appalachian region so much that I studied it in college! My family has been in Smyth County, Virginia since 1775, and family is very important to me. I have three nieces, three nephews, and two great-nephews!
I attended Radford University in Virginia and received my Bachelor's in History and Social Sciences. I received a concentration in Education and minors in Appalachian Studies and English. I stayed at Radford for my Master's degree in English (American Literature) and a Graduate Certificate in Appalachian Studies. In August 2016, I finished the Academically and Intellectually Gifted Education Licensure Program at Duke University.
After college, I have worked at a non-profit urging people to return to the Appalachian region upon graduation. I also spent time at colleges and universities as an archivist (Radford University), teaching (Southwest Virginia Community College and Wytheville Community College), and working with students in student programming and community service (Emory & Henry College).
I came to North Carolina in Fall of 2013 to teach 8th Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies. After two years in 6th Grade English Language Arts, I returned to Social Studies! I am so excited to be at McDougle Middle and with the Legend Team!
In October 2015 I got married and in June 2017 we welcomed our first child, Grayson Nathaniel into the world!
Below is a glimpse of all the things I enjoy doing and some of the places I've been!
I'm so excited to have you as my student this year!
